She came in like a whirlwind and by the time she left there was water every where. There is not an empty spot of space on my kitchen and bathroom counters. She left 3 big stock pots, 3 water bath canners, 2 pressure canners, a turkey fryer pan, a fish fryer pan, 4 dish tubs, several large bowls that I use just for canning, several half gallon and one gallon pitchers and other containers, 2 dozen quart canning jars and two large Rubber Maid containers full of water all over. And she filled two bath tubs and the washing machine full of water. She wanted to make sure we had enough water to last us in case the power went out this week.
My husband did a estimate on how much water she stored up for us and he puts it at around 200 gallons when you add the two bath tubs and the washing machine. He was not to happy about what Tropical Storm Granny did at first and when I reminded him that the water will not go to waste because I can use it for cooking, making coffee and tea and for washing up and washing clothes he was a lot happier. I also gently reminded him that she was really doing us a favor because it the power is out more than 3 days we will no longer be able to get safe drinking water from our city water lines. He does not have much of a prepper mind set. He feels if SHTF that its all over so we might as well bend over and kiss our backsides goodbye.
I am of the mind set that the Good Lord helps those who help themselves. I do everything I can to prepare us for as many different types of SHTF as I can. From storms to poweroutages to food shortages and high prices. I buy as much as I can of things when they are on sale hardly ever paying full price for anything. What prep items I can make for myself out of salvaged items I do. Why spend big money on something that I can make for free or for less than half price?
Even though Tropical Storm Granny hit my house and left a big mess I am happy she did it. Having all this water on hand is one less prep item I will have to worry about if the power goes down in the next few days. Any time Tropical Storm Granny wants to hit my house she is more than welcome. I can use her help any day of the week.
