There was about 25-30 people in the gang that attacked us. It didn't look like all of them had guns because some were carring baseball bats and others were carring knives. They surrounded the house and was trying to get in from all sides. Two guys were trying to force their way into the front door but they could not get it because of the heavy metal brace that was on metal brackets holding the door shut tight. They had even broke the glass on the 9 pane window of the door but the sheet of heavy metal that Steve and Mike had covered the window with would not budge. John held his gun up to the peep hole Mike had drilled in the metal and hit one of the guys right in the middle of the forehead. The other guy took off running.
Steve was covering the same side of the house as John was. He managed to take out two of the gang. One had managed to get a boost up to the roof on my storage room and was making his way to the window in Steve's bedroom. Mike, Jen and JR were guarding the back side of the house and between them they managed to take out four, one was trying to get in the back door and the other three were trying to get into the garage. Tammy and I were guarding the same side of the house. There was a small group of 5 that was making their way to the windows we were guarding. Tammy fired and the chest of the guy she hit had turned a bright crimsom red. I fired on the next one. John and Dave had told us to aim for the chest because it was a bigger target then a head shot. I missed the guys chest and some how managed to get him in the throat. He dropped to the ground and I could see blood pouring out of his mouth. Tammy fired again and got another guy in the leg. The other two he was with helped him run off. Dave shot at a guy who was running with a torch. He shot him right between the eyes. Nikki had been running from room to room making sure we all had plenty of ammo and reloading guns as needed.
Two guys had charged the living room picture window with the idea of breaking the window and getting in. They found the boards with the nail in them first and all of a sudden we heard loud screams of pain and we saw two guys laying on the ground holding their feet and screaming. John raised his gun at them and they took off crawling as fast as they could. John is not the type to shoot some one in the back so he let them go.
The fight lasted no more than a half hour and from what we could tell at least eight of the gang members were dead for sure. We were not sure about two of them. We also knew that at least six had been wounded. While the rest of us stood our posts my sil went and checked on every one. She found JR with a gunshot wound to his left arm. I went and got the first aid kit and told Tammy that since she had turned into a better shot than me to please stay at her post and I would take care of him and then send him in to her so she could see him.
The bullet had went clean through the fatty part of JR's arm and it didn't look like it hit the bone. I poured some whiskey on both sides of the wound then applied an antibiotic cream to it. I bandaged the wound, asked him he wanted anything for pain to which he said no then I sent him in so Tammy could see he was alright.
Steve and Mike talked about going out and moving the bodies but John and Dave said no. They reminded them that the rest of the gang could be hiding anywhere waiting for one of us to come out side where they would either try to kill them or use them for hostages.
Even though our dinner out in the garage was ready to eat no of us was about to risk our lives to go out to get it. Mike did go out long enough to back the Jimmy up against the door and then he quickly came back inside. I pulled some summer sausage, waxed cheese, peanut butter and crackers out the storage room for my sil and Nikki to fix every one a little something to eat and I got them two cans of Spaghetti O's and a pint of applesauce to fix the children. We didn't have enough wood in the house to run the rocket heater all night but we did have a 5 gallon can of kerosene on the front porch.
Steve and Mike opend the front door long enough to throw the body out in the yard and grab the kerosene. Then they took the roll of duct tape I had and taped up the broken windows to try and block some of the cold air that was coming in.
None of us slept that night except my sil and the kids. The rest of us had pulled up chairs and sat by the windows all night. Jen, Steve and Mike had bundled up in all the winter clothes they could find and took chairs upstairs to sit in while they kept watch. We had no more problems during the night.
