Once the news was done and the dj started playing another song Mike turned off the radio. Everyone started talking at once. All were worried about Fema and Homeland Security coming into town to take their food stores. Nearly everyone was saying the same thing. That the only way some one was taking their food was over their dead bodies. Once I could get everyone attention I told them they simply need to hide their food so no one can find it and that there were many ways to hide their food storages.
All at once people started asking how to hide their food. I told them that ones who lived in mobile home could take their canned goods wrap them well in heavy plastic and use duct tape to hold the plastic in place. Then place the wrapped cans in plastic totes, tape the lids on and bury the tote below the freeze line under their mobile homes. The ones who had cememt basements could run PVC pipe through the exposed floor joints in the ceilings of the basement and hide food in those. Just make sure the pipes really looked like they were going to the kitchen, bathrooms and outside water pipes. For people like us who have dirt floor basements we could use the totes and PVC pipe to put our can good in and bury them in the basement. False walls could also be made if anyone had the room to do that.
I suggested that every one keep just 3 days worth of food where Fema would find it easy and for everyone to wear baggie clothes to make it look like they were not getting much to eat. Another thing I told them was to pass the word around town because if Fema found to many people with a lot of food in their houses they were going to start questioning why only a few of us had so little. Even though the phones were now working I warned them to spread the warning by word of mouth. You never know who might be listening on the phone lines. And to not tell any one in the local law enforcement or emergenecy services as they would have to tell Fema what was going on when Fema got here.
After everyone had gone home to think of how they were going to hide their food we all went in the house and started talking about how to hide our own food. I told the guys that the doors to the root celler were a dead give away so they needed to come up with a way to hide them. Once they figured that out then we could move half the food storage in there and hide the rest in the basement by burying it in the dirt floor and using PVC pipes in the floor joists to hide more food.
I have plenty of big totes, heavy duty plastic and duct tape so we should be able to secure our food pretty well from Fema, bugs, rodents and weather. Once the food is well hidden we are going to take all the shevling units and place them in different spots around the house and fill them with odds and ends. Then we are going to move Nikki and Maci into that room to make it look like its been their sleeping space for quite some time.
Once we had our plans all figured out we went to bed. We are going to get up early and get started on making sure Fema does not find our food.
