Is another man's treasure or in this case I should say a woman's treasure. :) Since we have moved to Mississippi I have been able to collect a lot of things I can use for prepping and in a SHTF event from my husband's cousin.
Pete is a collector of anything he thinks might come in handy for him or other family members. There is no telling what you can find on his land. He has it all sorted by items and stacked in nice neat piles. Instead of looking like a junk yard it looks like a highly organized yardsale.
We went over there a few weeks ago and I found some things I could use in my outdoor kitchen I am slowly building. Now none of this stuff is fancy and all will need a good cleaning but I don't mind doing it. After all in a SHTF event who is going to need fancy things? Many of us will be lucky to have a pot to pee in if anything happens.
Below is what I picked up over at Pete's a few weeks ago. I found a round metal disk that I thought would be good for burning coals or wood in to use for cooking.
it is under the barrel ring in the picture below. I also found the barrel ring which was cut off a barrel at some point in time and already had the holes for air and the cut out on the side for keeping a fire going.

Pete have given me a big cast iron metal grate when we first moved down here to use on my rocket stove. It is an almost perfect fit for this.
Right now it is sitting on top one of my rocket stoves until I can get a few more cinder blocks to make a stand for it. I can burn wood or charcoal in this to cook.
Pete also had an old RV stove that he didn't want so I got it to. I am going to build a frame for it using red bricks and fill the space between the stove and bricks with dirt to help hold in the heat. There are to different ways I could use this stove and I have not quite figured out which way I will go. I can use charcoal on the inside the oven for baking or I can build a fire pit under the stove and use wood for cooking in it. I might fix it to where I can use both ways.
My little outdoor kitchen may not look like much but as long as it gets the job done I do not care. Besides, the money I am saving by reusing some one else'e junk will allow me to focus using my money in areas of prepping where I can not recycle or make what I need.
