My emergency car kit

2/20/2014

I live in the north and the weather can get pretty extreme in the winter time. A emergency car kit can come in very handy at any time in any type of weather. In worst case scenarios they can make the difference between life and death.

We have a van that has stow and go seating. The empty spaces under the  middle and back seat come in handy for emergency storage when the seats are opened up. Due to the fact that my husband has to use a power chair when we go some where the back seat is always stowed away to make room for his chair and loading ramps but I still have the storage area under the two middle seats and the front passenger seat.

Under the front passenger seat I keep a first aid kit, flashlight, extra batteries, two pillar candles, a box of matches, a box of tissue, a package of baby wipes, and a Leatherman multi tool.

Under the two middle seats I keep a blanket and 3 small pillows under one seat and two blankets under the other seat. I also keep a  hunting knife which has some fishing line, hooks, wrapped matches and compass hidden in the handle and two pocket knives in with the blankets under the one seat.

In the cargo area at the back of the van I keep a 18 gallon plastic tote in which I keep a pair of jumper cables, a gallon of antifreeze, a gallon of washer fluid, 4 cans of motor oil, a few small hand tools, a roll of duct tape, a roll of electrical tape, a Jumpstart kit, a small box of different size fuses, a folding shovel, a can of Fix a Flat and a old throw rug.

Between the two front seat we have a little storage container that I bought. In it I a keep some granola bars, fruit drink pouches, trail mix, mixed nuts and a package of beef sticks.

Then of course I always have my purse with me so it has become an extension of our emergency car kit. In it I keep a weeks worth of meds for the both of us, some hard candy, some cough drops, Tylenol, two bandanas and a small flashlight.

Underneath the radio there is a little cubby hole where I keep the car charger for the cell phones, the car charger for my husbands portable nebulizer, and a small emergency radio.

I know this sounds like a lot but you never know what kind of circumstances you may be caught in nor where you will be. It is always better to be safe then sorry.
Have you got your emergency car care kit ready and in your car?
