Prepping does not mean just prepping for a major end of the world type deal. It means being prepared for even the slightest problems. Such as what has been going on for the last few weeks with the propane shortage. It doesn't matter what is causing the shortage but the fact that many people are suffering because they have run out of propane is important.
On the news the other night I heard about a family that has been out of propane for over a week. Their only heat source is a small one room electric heater and with the sub zero wind chills and temps down in the single digits or teens they can not keep their house above 38 - 40 degrees. The only cooking sources they have are small counter top cooking equipment and a microwave since their stove uses propane. Their water is frozen and they have run out of what little water they have. So they had no choice but to go to a motel until they can get propane.
If they had been better prepared with a wood burning stove or kerosene heater and a camp stove for cooking they would not have had to leave their home. The house would have been a lot warmer and maybe their water pipes would not have frozen.
These people didn't think to prepare for such events so now their are paying the price. Motels rooms are not cheap. What they will spend to stay there even a couple of days would have covered the cost of a good kerosene heater alone. A weeks stay would cover the cost of a small wood burning stove and a some wood.
It pays to think about the what ifs we may face in the future and prepare for them. A ice storm which brings down power lines, a tornado, hurricane, winter storm, blizzards or just a loss of income for a week or two can devastate a family. Being prepared will help you survive these times and insure your family is safe, well fed and warm.
