After reading this article http://newswatch.us/sky-high-food-prices-ahead-due-to-california-mega-drought/ this morning I figured that I had better do something to grow some kind of food to tide us over until we get south and I can have a bigger garden. I don't want to plant my garden here this year because we will be leaving before most of it is ready to harvest.
So I looked around the internet and found some ideas I could use and then looked around my house for things that I could use to plant some small container plants and set them in the sills of my windows around the house. I came up with tin cans and plastic bottle shown below.
I placed the caps back on the top of the bottles and then placed them top side down in the bottom of the bottles.
I took the hammer and the nail and pounded 5 holes in the bottom of the tin cans.
I then place the tin cans in containers to catch any water that drains from the holes.
After I filled each of the containers with wet soil I planted 3-4 seeds in each. I took clothespins and wrote the names of the plants on them and attached them to the containers.
I sat them all in my kitchen window and will wait and see what happens. :) I am sure they will grow.
I may not be able grow a lot but what ever I can grow will help for sure on the food bill.
