Belts: I took several. Use: roll up my blankets and cinch with a belt to keep them orderly. Two will go for my emergency use blankets in the vehicles instead of them being all willy nilly in the back seat. I have a truck but I can’t put any kind of covered bag in there due to living in the city and someone breaking in my truck thinking there might be something worth stealing in there.
Books: Just pleasure books for when there is no electronic entertainment.
Cookie Tins: I’ve never met one I couldn’t use. I use them for storing dry foods in that won’t fit in a canning jar or glass jar. I use them for storing electric cords for cell phone chargers and all those other cords that clutter up everything and you can find it when you need it. I buy Avery labels or you can use masking tape to mark on the tin what it is. I use them for storing paper plates, plastic spoons, dinner napkins, etc.
I found quite a few men’s hankies (free) these will be put back for use with the common cold versus using paper products. Honestly after blowing your nose on Kleenex awhile your nose gets raw and sore so cotton hankies work so much better. Yeah a little ickier to clean but ya know, our grandparents did it for years before the invention of disposables.
Assorted knick knacks and wall paintings: Free for me. I will sell these in my next yard sale, money goes back into my prepping fund for other things I need.
Last Week: A box of linen’s that looked stained up and they wanted to throw away. In the box besides some old clutter stuff (half a pajama leg) there were several huge Rice sacks are now being used for shower mats in my bathroom. A huge and very long strip of gauze.. went into my emergency supply suitcase. This had to be at least 4 foot long. Lots of old cloth diapers ( used to clean the house with and the dog when she has accidents (she’s epileptic and has accidents on herself when she has seizures). I found many uses for that box of stuff, cost? $1.00.
This week: Crochet Afghans. While they aren’t my style or texture of yarn they will go in my yard Saturday for hopefully another prepper to keep in their car for emergency use.
Hope these ideas help you to think outside the box when thrift storing or yard saling.
