I know its been a while since I've written but its been a busy week. I've been spending this week getting ready for what to me amounts to a little adventure. Its not very often that I get away from the homestead for the weekend and I hope to make the most of this trip. My wonderful husband is going to be working extra hard at home doing both his chores AND mine so that a good friend and I can attend the Mother Earth News fair in North Carolina.
The fair is all about homesteading and sustainable living. It is two days and starts tomorrow morning then runs through Sunday afternoon. There will be booths and speakers galore. I've had a good time deciding which speakers I really want to see and hear. I hope to take notes and pictures and share as much as I can with you.
That's not all though. I'm also taking this opportunity to do some tent camping. We are leaving today, before the fair tomorrow, to set up camp and have some time to relax after the ride. I am just as excited about the camping trip as I am about the fair:) We won't be "roughing it" in the woods because we are staying in a campground. We won't even be staying at one of the primitive campsites because we both like to be close to the showers:). We WILL be cooking most of our meals with the camp stove and over the fire on cast iron. We will be snuggled into our sleeping bags at night which are supposed to be chilly. It seems like my Yukon is loaded down but most of it is for cooking and sharing the wonderful meals we have planned.
Again I am going to take plenty of pictures and I'm bringing a notebook so I can write down as much as possible to share with you. My friend has agreed that it will be fun to share our meals, campsite and experience this weekend with you. She's being a real trooper to add the extra work and sleep in a tent when she could be staying in a comfortable hotel. I hope she has a good time. While you can't be here with us in body, we hope that we can make the whole weekend as fun for you as we hope it will be for us.
Whether the food is good or bad you will get to see how it gets prepared and how it comes out. You will get to see the campground and the campsite and enjoy a cup of hot tea or cocoa with us. I'm really excited about the whole trip from the camping to the fair to sharing it with you. Its going to be so much to include that it may take several posts. I also probably won't get to do many of them WHILE we are camping but I promise to share as much as possible as soon as my fingers can type when I get back.
In a little while, I have to get my farm chores done and make sure the baby goats have all their bottles ready for the weekend. My husband is going to be responsible for them and all the other things I do around the farm and business while I'm gone and I have to make it as painless for him and the animals as I am able. He's a wonderful husband for doing this for me. Knowing that everything will go well at home will make me worry free on my trip so that I can relax and enjoy myself.
So, its almost time for our camping and fair weekend and you're invited! I hope you enjoy it as much as me.
