Depending on where you live you may have to prep for winter time. I live in the north so I have a lot of prepping for winter to do in the fall. Get it all done before the temps drop below freezing and those bitter north winds hit is a lot easier than trying to do with snow falling all around and you can no longer feel your fingers or your toes.
Here is my list of fall chores I have to get done before it gets to cold. Some may be of help to you and other may not. It all depends on where you live.
1. Have all the fluids checked in the cars and either change them or added more if low.
2. Sort through my emergency kits that I use in the cars and replace what is needed then put the kits back in the cars.
3. Have the tires rotated or replaced if needed.
4. Buy bags of kitty litter to keep in the cars for slide offs so we can get out.
5. Put the garden to bed for the winter.
6. Put all the garden and lawn tools in the shed and lock it up
7. Make sure all the winter snow shovels and snowbrushes are in good repair. If not replace them.
8. Cover the window air condititioner with plastic to keep cold air out of the house.
9. Pull out draft stoppers for the outside doors.
10. Put plastic on two windows that need it.
11.Rake up all the leaves and put them in the compost bin.
12. Clean out the gutters to prevent ice dams from building on the roof.
13. Start up the snow blower and make sure its in good running condition.
14. Start up the generator and make sure its in good runing conditition.
15. Put a snow shovel on the front porch and one on the back porch
16. Buy 4 bags of ice melt
17. Buy lock antifreeze for the car locks
18.Take winter clothes out of storage and pack way summer clothes
19.Sort through all the hats and gloves, make sure all are in good repair and that all the gloves have mates.
20. Stock up on a few gallons of gas and a few gallons of kerosene for the generator and kerosene heater in case of power outages due to heavy snow and ice bringing the power lines down.
21. Change filter on furnace
22. Put away lawn furniture and lawn orinments
23. Empty birdbath and turn over
24. Put away yard solar lights
25. Stock up on cold meds
26. Put out warm throws to cover with when watching tv or reading.
27. Pull out fall/winter menu recipes.
28. Put quilts on all the beds
29. Put down throw rugs and area rugs on the bare floors to help keep them warmer.
30. Lubercate all the rubber on the car doors to keep them from freezing shut.
31. Cut back all bushes and cut down dead plants.
32. Clean fans and put away for the winter
33. Take screens out of storm doors and put in windows
34. Bring in my potted plants I want to keep during the winter
35. Go back through my list and make sure I didn't miss anything or forget anything.
I keep this list on the bulletin board and as each chore is done I check it off. Helps me keep track of what I have got done and what I still need to do.
Hope you have your winter prep list ready to go and are starting to tackle those chores. :)
