The power grid has been down for two months now. You have been doing all your cooking on your gas grill but now the bottled gas is gone. You can not use your house stove because either it's electric or the natural gas is no longer coming through the lines. Now how are you going to cook?
Of course you could build a fire pit and cook over that but if you live in the north that is only going to work for part of the year. What are you going to do in the winter time when its to cold to stand out side cooking over a fire in - 30 degree wind chills?
It's simple really. Just have back ups for your back ups. Instead of just having one or two ways to cook when the power grid goes down have several. A rocket stove, a gas grill, a charcoal grill, a wood stove, a camp stove or a fire pit. Just make sure you have at least two ways to cook both indoors and outdoors.
Same goes for most things you will need to keep house, take care of your family, care for the animals and so on. Got only one broom? Maybe you should get another one so when that one wears out you will have a replacement while you learn how to make one. Same goes for a mop or dustpan.
Have only one pressure canner? It would be wise to buy another one and make sure you have an extra rubber gasket and weight for each one of them. Water bath canners have a habit of getting chips in them that eventually become holes. A back up water bath canner would be good to have.
Remember the saying that most preppers live by when you are doing your preps.
"Two is one and one is none.' When you only have one of a prep item and something happens to it you are without it from then on. Always have back ups for your back ups that way you won't have to do with out when the first one is no longer viable.
